Chet's Martial Arts

Three dragons (all born in the year of the dragn) at Dragon Gate during a martial arts tour of Shaolin Village. The three of us...me on the right...were instructors at the Wing Lam school in Sunnyvale CA.

My favorite Chinese weapon, the Kwan Do, was made by Sifu Wing Lam. It is made of steel, brass, and hardwood, was fitted to my height, and weighs 19 pounds. Kwan Do means Kwan's knife, named after the famous General Kwan who used it in battle on horseback.

Chet's Martial Arts

Past Experience

I have practiced the martial arts on and off since 1973. I started out with a little Shotokan Karate then some Aikido and Yang Taiji but finally settled on a Northern Shaolin school in Miami Florida. After moving to California I studied Kendo and Iaido before finding the Wing Lam Kung Fu school. There I was fortunate to review the same Northern Shaolin style that I had studied in Florida years before.

Current Practice

While I lived in California I taught Hung Gar at the Wing Lam Kung Fu school in Sunnyvale. My primary interests, along with Hung Gar and Taiji, are Iron Palm and Golden Bell Chi Qong. These two practices are from the Shaolin system as handed down from Grandmaster Kuo Yu Cheung. They comprise part of the Shaolin 'internal' system.

In 1998 I became Sifu Wing Lam's first disciple. In 2002 Sifu Lam and I published 'Ultimate Iron Palm' which can be purchased at the www.wle.com web site.

Currently I practice Hung Gar Kung Fu and Sun Taiji in Washington State and teach Hung Gar, iron body and iron palm to my youngest daughter.

Lineages

These lineages represent the transmission of instruction from earlier Chinese martial artists to my generation. My current teacher is Sifu Wing Lam and these lineages all start with Sifu Lam and go back in time to recognized Grandmasters of each style.
